Notepad++ version history

Release notes are published by the Notepad++ project on its own downloads page. This independent site does not copy that full history and does not invent version numbers.

On 10 October 2026, the first download section on the official downloads page was version 8.9.8.1. Older entries are on the same official page. Use that page when you install or update.

• The project names each release on its downloads page. This guide does not republish those release titles.
• An update inside Notepad++ depends on the auto-updater component from the official installer. You can also download a newer official installer yourself.
• A version number on a third-party file host is not a reason to run that file. The project's site is the source this guide uses.
